Bluetooth Low Energy
This prototype system was created to demonstrate the use of Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) communication and how it can be applied to a product. Temperature is being measured, sent to a mobile device (phone) and then uploaded to a server, which supplies the graph. The phone is used as an internet gateway, allowing the sensor/device to be both low power and low cost.
BLE can provide several advantages over other forms of communication in environments where sensors are highly mobile, or even worn. Being far less power hungry than WIFI or 3G sensors, battery size is greatly decreased. Smaller batteries mean reduced device size and cost.
Bluetooth Low Energy is an addition to classical bluetooth designed to reduce power consumption and cost while maintaining a similar communication range.
